18:30 Sketch: The Trial of William Lilly
19:15 Sir Elias Ashmole: astrologer, alchemist, antiquary, and more – Bernard Eccles
Elias Ashmole was interested in anything and everything. He was a close friend of William Lilly, but was also a founder member of the Royal Society, so he bridges both old knowledge and new. He seems to have known just about everyone who was anyone in 17th century London and he founded the world’s first public museum, the Ashmolean at Oxford. His personal coat of arms included the Gemini twins and the figure of Mercury! This talk looks at his life, his career, and of course, his horoscope.
